The Seminar will start and finish within the first half of the semester. The dates however are are a bit irregular und consist of daylong seminardays (9.00 - 17.00) and halfday-sessions. The dates are as follows:

Inhalt:
Zambia is a developing country in sub-saharan Africa. Offering a variety of beautiful landscapes, wild animals, the famous Victory Falls and a sort of stable political democratic system, it is also a country that is facing many challenges: poverty, HIV, Malaria, hunger crisises,…Despite these problems, families in Zambia work hard to create a bright future for their children. In the seminar we will take a closer look at the challenges and the opportunities that come with growing up and living in Zambia. Topics will be (for example):
Developing countries, development aid, the political system, the educational system, health, poverty, HIV, the role of social work,…
On Wednesday, May, 9th a group of around 20 students from the University of Zambia will come to the HSD for a full day in order to discuss topics around family, childhood, social work with the students of this Seminar. Therefore the whole Seminar will be held in English and attendance on May 9th is mandatory. The ‚Prüfungsleistung‘ also contains a part that involves participation in and preparation for that day (see below).
Empfehlungen zu speziellen Kenntnissen und Bereitschaften:
The seminar will be held in English. However, It is not at all necessary to be able to speak fluently. More important is the willingness to read english literatur and to participate in the discussions throughout the seminar. So if you are interested in the topic and you want to meet the visitors from Zambia, you are more than welcome to sign up for the Seminar.The written part oft he ‚Prüfungsleistung‘ can be written in German or English.
Arbeitsformen:
Presentations, Lecture, working in groups, methods of selfreflection and reflection of experiences in groups, discussions,...Prüfungsleistungen bzw. Testat:
Presentation in the seminar (around 20 minutes - including slides and handout)AND
Creating a Flyer or Poster or giving a short input for the visitors from Zambia (topics could be e.g. Family, social work,…) on May 9th
AND
Reflection (5 pages – in German or English), will be partly produced within the Seminar.

5seitige Reflexion in Deutsch oder Englisch, wird zum Teil im Seminar erstellt.
